Writing Without Fear

I recently read Elizabeth Gilbert's thrilling book, 'Big Magic' recommended to me by my friend Rosy Tydeman from the Glorious Art House in Exeter. Gilbert's premise exactly fits my perception of play and creativity - essentially - just do it! Don't let your critical, judgmental self get in the way of expressing your ideas.
Dorothea Brande writing in the 1930s knew this truth and communicated it in her book, 'Becoming a writer'. She was of the view that creativity emerges from the unconscious (she makes a distinction between the 'unconscious' and the Freudian 'subconscious' implying 'less than' the conscious) and our task is to get the conscious, thinking mind out of the way for the unconscious to do its work.
This view of creativity exactly resonates with my own direct experience and my witnessing of many others' creative experiences.
The conscious mind does indeed have a job to do but that's later in the editing process.
In these creative writing workshops, I want to invite participants to access their creativity in a safe and facilitative environment in ways that surprise them, bring them joy, help them to reflect, inspire them to do more.
The workshops are based in South Devon and run for a morning, afternoon or a whole day.
